The lovely Estate of Brand Hall, Norton in Hales, was once again hosting the British Eventing International Horse Trials over this past weekend, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Michael Taylor. A standing ovation, calls for more and everyone asking to have the group back ended the evening at the recent concert from Lost Highway in the village hall. They had performed a wide range of music from the St Louis Blues played with a modern take, to the Irish song ‘Black is the Colour of my True Love’s Hair’; the audience were in fine voice joining in with ‘Under the Boardwalk’ and the evening ended with Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’. May sees the end of the ‘Messenger’ parish newsletter and is being replaced by the Bradling Stone, a monthly Norton in Hales magazine. The name comes from the distinctive stone in the centre of the village. It can be found under the News and Events dropdown box. “A lovely display of purple crocuses planted in the grounds of St Chad’s, Norton in Hales by the children of the village school, helped by the Norton in Bloom Group, in previous autumns. The North Staffordshire Hounds met at Oakley Hall on Saturday 16 February for a day’s Trail Hunting. He Meet was kindly hosted by Mrs Anne Fisher, a former High Sheriff of Staffordshire, and this was the last Meet before Anne leaves her lovely house which she has now sold.
